If you were to ask The Legend of Korra fans what season was their favorite, it’s probably safe to say it was Season Three. Season Three was intense. It was probably one of the most visceral seasons in the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe. The main villain, Zaheer, was hell-bent on forcing Korra into the Avatar state while poisoned to kill her and end the cycle of rebirth. His philosophy and approach to Airbending was said to be influenced by an ancient Airbender named Guru  Laghima.

Now, with the ATLA universe growing ever since the original creators announced their new Avatar Studios partnered with Nickelodeon, it looks like fans will get to see and experience the story of the said Guru this November.

Website Avatar News was treated to an advanced reader copy of the new comic that will feature the famous Air Nomad. It will be rather short, they report, but it’s set 4000 years before the time of Aang and Korra. They’re rather scant on anything further, but they mention that the comic is a Korra anthology. The official title of the comic is The Legend of Korra: Patterns in Time.

With it being an anthology, and the report that it’s short, that sets the stage for the Guru Laghima part to be one of the stories, or perhaps a story within one of the anthology stories. Guru Laghima was referenced by Avatar Yangchen, the Airbender Avatar before Aang, and Avatar Kyoshi, so they’re clearly well known. According to lore, that notoriety is due to Guru Laghima being the first Airbender to have achieved “true flight”, the ability to actually fly. Airbenders bend air to help them jump far and land lightly, but only Guru Laghima, and later Zaheer through the Guru’s teachings, have achieved flight.

However long it is, it will be certainly exciting to be able to dive into the lore around the first Airbender to achieve what Zaheer thought to be the fullest extent of the Air Nomad value of freedom.
