Are you ready for a rematch? The Godzilla vs. Kong sequel, the next installment of Legendary’s MonsterVerse, has begun filming as reported by 7News. The first location? Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. It’s doubling for Rio De Janeiro, specifically one of its beaches, where a phase of the conflict occurs, leaving beachgoers to flee in terror. Truly, lizard and gorilla fighting will never be the same again. The film is being directed by the returning Adam Wingard and Beauty and the Beast’s Dan Stevens is attached to star.
Godzilla vs. Kong was one of the first films to show that theatrical releases still had life, as cinemas worldwide gradually reopened to their fullest capacities. Released in March 2021, the film earned $470 million globally, the eighth-highest grossing of the year. No adjacent films in the MonsterVerse will be released between Godzilla vs. Kong titles and none beyond the sequel have been announced. However, there is a live-action streaming series filming for Apple TV+ featuring Kurt and Wyatt Russell. It is the elder Russell’s first regular television role in decades. A Skull Island animated series is also in development that will stream on Netflix. The Godzilla vs. Kong sequel is scheduled to be released on March 15, 2024.
