Industrial Light & Magic Announces The Addition Of A Mumbai Production Studio

Lucasfilm just revealed plans to expand their visual effects studio internationally. The company announced on Tuesday that Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) will open a studio in Mumbai in 2022.
Industrial Light & Magic is the division of Lucasfilm responsible for the groundbreaking StageCraft LED sound stage known as “the Volume,” utilized in shows like “The Mandalorian” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” ILM is currently based in San Francisco, and has branch studios in Vancouver, London, Sydney, and Singapore. The Mumbai studio will be headed by Kiran ‘KP’ Prasad, former DNEG Bangalore & Chennai head of studio.

Prasad expressed her excitement to work with Lucasfilm in a press conference, saying, “It is exciting and an honor to be part of the ILM team at such a key moment in the VFX industry with technological developments pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling.”
ILM Mumbai is looking to recruit top-tier talent, and is hiring across the board to staff the new expansion. ILM’s SVP and chief creative officer Rob Bredow said in a press conference, “Being able to add more top talent, now in our new ILM studio in India, is going to help us continue to grow and continue to do the highest quality work on even more exciting shows.”
The studio’s production will include projects for live-action and animated films and shows, attractions, and streaming content. The development of the studio’s visual effects department will undoubtedly continue Lucasfilm’s long tradition of pioneering groundbreaking technology in the filmmaking industry.
