Someone's going to be the new face of Jonathan Kent on Superman & Lois. Fresh off the revelation that Dylan Walsh's portrayal of Gen. Sam Lane was not some post-Crisis DNA rewrite in-universe due to the series taking place on a separate Earth entirely, a more straightforward recast is about to occur. Jordan Elsass, who portrays Jonathan Kent, son of Clark and Lois and twin to Jordan, is not returning for the upcoming third season.

Elsass did not report back to Vancouver for work by the deadline for the cast to reconvene. There are several possibilities as to why it's happening, but the most specific there's been is "personal reasons." The recently Saturn-nominated actor has notified the studio of his decision. He has yet to make a statement about the abrupt exit, though it has only been about a day.

The personal issues reportedly stem from mental health. Deadline has brought up that his COVID-19 vaccination status isn't known. He was able to film at all last season by a granted exception and has a history of questioning vaccines. Canada's restrictions against allowing unvaccinated people into the country had notably left ten Kansas City Royals ineligible for a mid-July series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin, Bitsie Tulloch, and Alex Garfin as Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jordan Kent. Elsass and Garfin were both nominated for the Saturn Award for Performance by a Younger Actor in a Network or Cable Series. In addition, Hoechlin, Tulloch, and Emmanuelle Chriqui, who plays Lana Lang, were nominated for Actor, Actress, and Supporting Actress in a Network or Cable Series. Like the first two seasons, The show's third season will debut midseason in 2023.
