Meet Namor, The Antagonist For 'Wakanda Forever'
A classic antagonist of the Black Panther comics is coming to the silver screen, and it’s a character match made in heaven. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is introducing Namor, king of his own advanced civilization, to the MCU. The similarities and differences between the places and the people are truly interesting, but who exactly is Namor?
In this adaptation of the character, Namor is the ruler of the underwater nation Talocan rather than a stereotypical Atlantis, the basis of which is inspired by Mesoamerican culture and history. The character will be played by Mexican actor and activist Tenoch Huerta, recently seen in Madres and The Forever Purge.
RELATED:
Both civilizations are advanced, and before Wakanda revealed themselves to the world, they were both hidden away from prying eyes. With Wakanda’s revelation, the safety and security of Talocan have been put at risk by association, and their king won’t stand by and let his people possibly suffer.
These alterations to the character are super interesting and very exciting. However, one thing is reportedly not changing: Namor will still be a mutant. There have been hints and leaps made towards the existence of mutants, but this will really cement them in the main timeline. In the comics, the character has aligned with The Brotherhood to fight the X-Men, has fought Magneto, and more, so he has the potential to bring a lot to the table.
Considering how old the Sub-Mariner’s character is, his deep connection with mutants and the X-Men, and the smooth storyline into Wakanda Forever with the new take, there isn’t a better way for this to proceed. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is slated to release on November 11th, 2022, so keep an eye out!
