Netflix's Adult Animation Department Head Will Be Leaving To Pursue Other Opportunities
Mike Moon, the head of Netflix's Adult Animation department, has announced that he will be leaving his position at the end of July. Moon, who joined Netflix over four years ago, announced that he was parting ways with the streaming giant to pursue other career opportunities.
Prior to Netflix, Moon worked as an artist for 15 years alongside Sony Pictures Animation and Cartoon Network. Moon's joining Netflix coincided with the company's release of successful adult animated shows like Bojack Horseman, F Is For Family, and Big Mouth. During his tenure, Moon helped develop further hit shows, such as The Midnight Gospel, Human Resources (a Big Mouth spin-off), and Inside Job, the brainchild of Gravity Falls alum Shion Takeuchi.
Moon's resignation is yet another blow to Netflix, coming hot on the heels of the streaming company's loss of almost 970 000 subscribers at the end of Q2 2022 - almost quintupling its 200,000 subscriber loss in April. It also coincides with shake-ups in Netflix's animation departments, such as canceling several animation projects and the stepping down of Netflix's VP of Animation Film, Melissa Cobb. But both Moon and Netflix stated that these shake-ups and Moon's resignation are unrelated. Furthermore, Netflix has stated that it remains committed to its adult animation division and Moon's investments in the animation facility, Vine Studios.
