'The Rings of Power' Season 2 Starts Filming In The UK

Monday was the first day of production on the anticipated second season of Amazon’s The Rings of Power in Windsor, England. While the first season followed in the footsteps of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy and took its shoot to New Zealand, the Amazon showrunners have opted to move production of its sophomore season to the multi-show Bray Studios hub west of London. The historic studio is best known for its association with Hammer Films in the fifties and sixties but reopened in 2019 for the BBC miniseries Dracula produced by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat of Sherlock fame.
It was previously confirmed that Círdan the shipwright would appear in the second season, though casting for the role has not yet been announced. In Tolkien’s writing, Círdan eventually becomes Master of the Grey Havens, and he appears briefly in Jackson’s films, played by Michael Elsworth. Notably, the shipwright was also the ringbearer for Narya, the ring of fire, before handing it off to Gandalf in the Third Age of Middle Earth.

The Rings of Power follows an ensemble cast of Elves, Men, Dwarves, and Harfoots (distant relatives of Hobbits) in the final years of the Second Age as events unfold that will culminate in the War of the Ring seen in the prologue in The Lord of the Rings films. The first season has been well-received by critics, with a rating of 84% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. IMDb user ratings are currently at 6.9/10 and the show streamed more than 1.25 billion minutes when it debuted its first two episodes at the beginning of September.
The Rings of Power is streaming now on Prime Video. The first season concludes with its eighth episode Friday, October 13th.
