'The Santa Clauses,' A Disney+ Spinoff Of The Tim Allen Classic, Will Feature David Krumholtz Returning as Bernard
The snow globe has been shaken thoroughly with all the talk about the return of Tim Allen as Santa Claus in the Disney+ series titled The Santa Clauses. It was revealed that Tim Allen would be reprising his role as the jolly bringer of cheer. However, it was initially announced that David Krumholtz would not be returning as Bernard, the head elf. Well, shake that globe again and watch the snow stir, because Bernard is back! Per an exclusive from Deadline, David Krumholtz will be returning to play the crotchety, oversized, head elf Bernard from the first two movies.
The new series will focus on Scott Calvin, a.k.a Santa Claus, played of course by Tim Allen. He is turning 65, and the whole Santa thing is wearing on him. He has his family to think of, like Mrs. Claus (again played by Elizabeth Mitchell), and his two grown children. When we last saw Calvin in The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, the pressures of the job were getting to him. He pulled an It’s Wonderful Life and made a wish for a life not as Santa, ceding the title to Jack Frost, played by brilliant comic Martin Short. Realizing how much he loves his job, and how corrupt Jack Frost was as Santa, Calvin plots for a way to get his life as Santa back. This time around, looking for a life for his family outside of the North Pole, Calvin is in the hunt for a replacement who will be just right for the job.

30 Rock and Modern Family producer Jack Burditt is slated to head the show, alongside Tim Allen as executive producer and Kevin Hench from Last Man Standing. Allen’s own daughter, Elizabeth Allen-Dick, will also be starring in the show as a character named Sandra. Another notable star is Kal Penn as Simon Choski. As he is the only other adult actor listed in the Deadline article, it is possible that Penn’s character could be the one Calvin recruits to take the sleigh reins.
While no official release date has been announced, The Santa Clauses began filming in March. Since it is a holiday-themed show, it very well could appear on Disney+ before this year's holidays.
