The Terrifying Origin Story Behind This Dark Side User?

Throughout the history of Star Wars, we’ve seen the many ways the Jedi were purged from existence across the galaxy. But if the Jedi were eliminated from history, where do Inquisitors come from? This is a question that has been asked by Star Wars fans not in the know, since Inquisitors made their first canonical appearance in Star Wars Rebels. Inquisitors are dark side Force-sensitive beings who serve the Empire and help Lord Vader to hunt down the surviving Jedi throughout the galaxy.

We all know that Vader was tasked to kill Force-sensitive beings, but we have several Force-sensitive beings working with him? The answer to this question has been covered before, especially in Charles Soule's Darth Vader comics. But it could also be elaborated upon further in the upcoming animated series, The Bad Batch. This animated series will take place after the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, following up in the wake of Order 66. We all know that some Inquisitors were Jedi before. The Grand Inquisitor himself used to be a Temple Guard, and the Second Sister used to be a Jedi Padawan.

Fans have speculated that we will see how several rogue Jedi turn to the Empire’s Inquisitor force, and hunt down their former brothers and sisters. One rogue Jedi that fans are speculating may be one of the first inquisitors is rogue Jedi Barris Offee. In The Clone Wars season 5, Offee is responsible for the bombing of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, and she is the one responsible for Ahsoka’s departure from the Jedi order. Because of Offee's betrayal, and her incarceration, many fans believe she will be one of the first rogue Jedi to be spared by the Empire, and will become one of the very first Imperial Inquisitors. Offee's motivations for turning against the Jedi are explained briefly, but the upcoming animated series could delve further into her losing faith in the Jedi, and show where she goes from when we last see her, possibly setting her on the path to aiding the Inquisitors on the dark side.

The Bad Batch may show us more details surrounding the events of Order 66, and the aftermath it all left throughout the galaxy. It might also show us the birth of the Inquisitor force, and might possibly include a cameo of Lord Vader himself. Maybe in The Bad Batch we will learn more about how and why the Grand Inquisitor became a member of the Empire, and left his post as a Jedi Temple Guard.

No member of Lucasfilm Story Group has confirmed whether or not more background for the Inquisitors will be explored in the upcoming series, but these many speculations might lead to something in the future, as The Bad Batch will show us the early days of the Empire, the transition of the Republic to the Empire, and maybe some moments during Order 66 we have never seen before. We know so little about the Inquisitors despite them being featured in various stories. We have many questions about these mysterious Imperial forces have caused, which might be answered in this new and upcoming animated series.

Lucasfilm has brought life back to Star Wars with their expanded content, after the sequel trilogy created so much controversy throughout the Star Wars fan community. Series like The MandalorianThe Clone Wars season 7, and the upcoming series The Bad Batch are giving fans a reason to believe in the future of Star Wars, making them more excited to see more sides of the galaxy that they have not seen before. The origins of the Inquisitors may be explored more in depth in the upcoming series. Even if that ends up not being the case, we can at least look forward to May the Fourth, which will bring us new Star Wars stories to explore.
