'The Walking Dead' Spinoff Has Been Renamed To 'The Walking Dead: Dead City'
The newest addition to The Walking Dead franchise has just received a new name. The previously announced series, originally entitled Isle of the Dead, will now be called The Walking Dead: Dead City.
The series, announced in March 2022, is set after the final season of The Walking Dead premieres this year. Dead City will follow Maggie (Lauren Cohen) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) to a New York City ravaged by the titular “walking dead”. AMC described the spinoff in a press release, saying:
Isle of the Dead envisions the popular Maggie and Negan characters traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.
The backdrop of New York City provides a drastic change of scenery from The Walking Dead’s usual woodland setting, but the true tension will come from the relationship between the main characters. After Maggie witnesses Negan brutally murdering her husband, Glenn, in season 7, she will no doubt begin the series looking for revenge. Navigating the post-apocalyptic landscape of Manhattan will raise the stakes for these fan-favourite characters.
The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere on AMC in March 2023 with a six-episode first season. While the series will undoubtedly be full of surprises, one thing is for sure: a plague of slow-walkers unleashed on New York City is a nightmare, indeed.
