Timeline For The New 'Penguin' Series, Starring Colin Farrell, Revealed

Around the time of The Batman’s release, fans got news of multiple shows spinning out of the widely acclaimed comic book film. Along with a sequel to Robert Pattinson’s version of the caped crusader, Matt Reeves Gotham universe will have two HBO Max series’. One focused on Arkham Asylum, and the other focused on Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot, or as many know him: The Penguin. With no set release date, Farrell has given insight into the progress of the production, as in a recent interview, he revealed that he has read the script, meaning it could be reaching its final iteration if not already.
While details on the show are scarce, one could speculate just what this show might be about, especially with the information given by Farrell. He confirmed the show is set one week after the ending of The Batman, noting that Gotham is still dealing with the flooding due to the mastermind known as The Riddler.

This quote is intriguing because while it gives fans an idea of when it occurs concerning The Batman, it also opens the door for speculation about the type of show we could be in for. For example, could Cobblepot be “stepping in” for Falcone as the top boss? Farell had this to say about his character in the show:
“I couldn’t be more excited about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin,”
With Gotham underwater and Falcone, the biggest crime boss in the city, now dead, there will most definitely be a war for power. Cobblepot, as portrayed in The Batman, has yet to take over as one of the top players in Gotham, and what better time to take control than when Falcone’s crew has no leader. With Falcone’s club up for grabs, it seems almost picture-perfect for Oswald to take over the bar to create the iconic Iceberg Lounge.

Gotham is well known for its corruption and surplus of gangs and could be in for an interesting power struggle.
Farrell also praised the work done by Lauren LeFranc, the writer and showrunner of the show, and admired how great the show’s writing is.
