Could Cal Kestis Appear In ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3?

With the release of the official trailer for The Mandalorian Season 3, the Star Wars fandom is ablaze with speculation about where the series will be going with his story. From Din Djarin’s quest to reclaim his Mandalorian title to Grogu’s developing Force abilities, there are many characters and storylines to dissect and analyze. One of the standout shots of the trailer is what appears to be another flashback to Order 66, which will likely answer how Grogu escaped from the Jedi Temple during the events of Revenge of the Sith. While many have been quick to say that Luke Skywalker will be the one to allow Grogu to access this vision, Grogu seemed to be definitively done with Luke’s training by the end of The Book of Boba Fett. With that said, I have an idea for another Jedi who could potentially appear to help Grogu.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the upcoming sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order from Respawn Entertainment, is scheduled to be released on March 17 of this year. Interestingly enough, this will be in the midst of The Mandalorian airing its third season, which is to premiere on March 1. Now while this is most likely a coincidence or, at most, good release synergy, I can’t help but wonder if Cal Kestis, the surviving Jedi protagonist of the game series, could end up making his live-action debut. After all, we still don’t know Cal’s ultimate fate after the original trilogy or Lucasfilm’s plans for the character. With Cal’s actor, Cameron Monaghan being vocally ready to portray his character in other Star Wars media and Din and Grogu potentially needing another Jedi to help them, I find myself unable to dismiss this idea outright.

Still, my enjoyment of the season won’t depend on Cal showing up. Fandom expectations are a double-edged sword, after all, sometimes enhancing the fan’s experience but more often getting them hyped for something that was never planned to begin with. If Cal does appear in The Mandalorian, I will be entirely on board as long as he is portrayed and integrated well within the story. If not, we’ll have to wait and see if he ends up surviving past the games.
