Who Is Jaxxon T. Tumperakki? The 'Star Wars' Rabbit You've Never Heard Of

Jaxxon T. Tumperakki debuted in Star Wars way back in 1977 in Chaykin and Palmer’s graphic novel. Marvel’s popular long-running Star Wars (1977) series is also responsible for introducing Han Solo and Chewbacca.
Jaxxon T. Tumperakki stood out on the page, a large green rabbit with buck teeth and a red jumpsuit. The alien race was known as Lepi, and he was one of the original seven new additions that Chaykin and Palmer made to the Star Wars Universe. George Lucas reportedly hated the giant rabbit, despite him being no more unusual than a Wookie, or whatever Yoda is.

Who Is Jaxxon T. Tumperakki?
The character was a nod to the playful side of Star Wars, the aspect of the saga that makes it attractive to adults and children alike, even if sometimes it misses the mark, eg The Star Wars Holiday Special. Jaxxon, or Jaxx considered himself to be the best smuggler in the galaxy and had a (mostly) friendly rivalry with Han Solo. He was grouchy, overconfident, and quipped with the best of them. Like Solo, he was a brawler, with double blasters. However, the bunny was a little more athletic than his fellow smuggler, and often bounced and flipped his way out of sticky situations.
Jaxxon’s ship was named The Rabbit’s Foot, and like the Millennium Falcon, it could be a bit temperamental. Although Han Solo irritated him, most of Jaxxon’s adventures involved the main cast of Star Wars. He was in Cloud City meeting Lando, at the time it was invaded by Vader, ran a mission for Leia Organa, and went to Mustafar to visit the Sith Lord’s infamous fortress.

Wait…Is He Canon?
Despite the many attempts to erase Jaxxon T Tumperakki, he keeps coming back and is officially canon. He was resurrected in 2018 for the Star Wars Adventures Annual graphic novel series and two years later, he became the subject of a short story in the anthology novel series From a Certain Point of View.
Jaxxon also popped up in Jedi Temple Challenge. Ahmed Best presented the kid's game show, which only ran for 10 episodes. In a story section, an animated Jaxxon argued with an Ugnaught. He has become so iconic that on the 50th Anniversary of LucasFilm, Hasbro released a 6’’ Black Series figure, that came complete with his signature two blaster pistols.
There’s no getting rid of this rabbit.
Jaxxon’s death technically made it into live-action. In the fifth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, A Sunny Day In The Void, Gascon encountered a shipwreck. One of the dead wore Jaxxon’s suit and had bunny incisors. Star Wars: Visions went even further, and gave us a whole story around Lop, another Lepi.

Is Jaxxon T. Tumperakki Coming To Live-Action?
Maybe?
Jaxon’s latest appearance was the 2023 one-shot comic Hyperspace Stories Annual—Jaxxon 2023 released as part of the Star Wars: Hyperspace Series. Variant covers all gave Jaxxon different, more updated looks. But the makeover fuelled rumors that he might be coming to a more prominent position in the canon. There are fan theories online about Jaxxon potentially appearing in Star Wars Skeleton Crew, that he’s being included in Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie, or that he’ll turn up in Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, which is the most likely.
It would be a difficult character to portray convincingly in live action, so an animated series like Star Wars: The Bad Batch would be a better fit, but then again, they’ve given us a Garazeb cameo in The Mandalorian, so anything is possible.
Wherever Jaxxon T. Tumperakki crops up next, this probably isn’t the last you’ve heard of the galaxy’s most resilient rabbit. If George Lucas couldn’t keep him out of Star Wars, then nothing will.
