‘Skeleton Crew’ Breakdown: Neel's Family And KB's Parents

A lot of the press around the characters of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew focused on the parents of just Wim and Fern. It might have even been the case that Neel and KB would not have their parents shown in the series. But, this fear proved moot when, as part of the series premiere, we got to see Neel’s large family in all its glory, followed closely after by KB’s moms. So, given that lack of focus in the lead-up to the show, with the season finale recently releasing, let's take a look at the families who didn’t get as much focus!

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Skeleton Crew.

Neel’s Family

We get a look at Neel’s family midway into the first episode of Skeleton Crew, in a sad scene sharply juxtaposing the full and happy home Neel has when he gets back from school with the empty, dark home Wim does due to the passing of his mom and his father often working late. It is important to note that Neel’s family are all members of the newly created Myykian species, as revealed by show creators Christopher Ford and Jon Watts in an interview with Collider. Now, let’s give a rundown!

Nooma And Nol

These two adults are analysts for the Great Work, Nooma gets a majority of the screen time in Skeleton Crew, as the member of the household engaged with the other parents and their eventual plan to help the kids find their way back home. She is one of the most driven too, transporting and handing off the device Wendle tries to use to access a communication code beyond the Barrier, and the first to suggest running with the communicator when the parents are discovered in the woods in Episode 7. Nol, by contrast, is only seen and not heard.

While Neel describes both of his parents as analysts in Episode 3, it seems likely that one parent remains at home to tend to their younger kids, while the other goes to work. While Neel is gone, Nol appears to take on this role a great deal more. Hopefully, if we get more Skeleton Crew, Nol will have the chance to speak and interact more with his son on screen. With Neel’s parents explored, on to the other children!

Jobo, Jorko And Tuloo

We see very little of this trio of Neel’s younger siblings, aside from the utterly adorable scene in Episode 1 where all three are watching the same holographic circus program known to fans from the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special. However, as we hear in Episode 4 when Neel and Hayna talk, Jorko may be quite rambunctious. He apparently stole Neel’s protractor, ran around the house, and jumped onto his brother’s head, causing Neel to fall over. If we ever do get more Skeleton Crew, we will almost certainly see more of the three younger Myykians.

KB’s Parents

Lastly, we come to KB’s parents, Garree and Maree. The two are also analysts engaged in the Great Work, and we sadly know the least about them. They are incredibly devoted to their daughter, but as is noted on StarWars.com, have raised her to be strong and independent, showing that they are not the sort of clingy parents one might expect after their child was in a major accident.

Still, they worry about her, rightly, given that KB seemingly needs routine maintenance on her augments. Based on how we see them handling the small probe the parents launch in Episode 7 though, they might have skills with technology and tinkering that have been carried onto their daughter, possibly assisting them with maintenance on her cybernetics.

Conclusion

Given what we’ve read above, the reasons for not including these characters in the advertising seem two-fold. On one hand, their role in the story is small on their own, and part of the narrative of our four main kid characters who help us learn more about them through their anecdotes and statements. On the other, all were also a delightful surprise, be they adorable bundles of joy like Neel’s siblings, or heartwarming, caring figures like Garee and Maree. Hopefully, we learn more about all of them, and see more of them in the future!
