At Galaxy Con Columbus 2024, one of their main guests was musician and performer Weird Al Yankovic. Besides the photos and autographs that he did all weekend, he also did a panel. The panel wasn’t the usual one where he talked about updates to work or something along that line, but instead, the whole hour was devoted to taking as many fan questions as possible and answering them. It was a wonderful fun conversation, and quite a few people were able to ask some questions. Below are a few things that Weird Al talked about during the Q&A panel.

He, of course, discussed a lot about his music and touring. He has a tour coming up, which he is excited about. He revealed that when he does tour, he doesn’t end up talking much during the tour so that he can make sure to save his voice, which is a smart move for a performer. He was asked what dream collaborator he’d love to perform with and the answer? Paul McCartney. He did confirm, again, sadly, that he is not planning on doing another album, but that doesn’t mean he's done putting out stuff. He is still doing some individual songs, so keep an eye out for those. Although he did hint at the upcoming stage musical that he is a part of. However, he couldn’t give details for it.

Many of the questions asked were about different songs he’s done. The polka songs were a favorite question among the fans. Weird Al noted that while he can’t pick a favorite polka song compilation, he loves them because “they are time capsules of the music of the time” that he wrote them. He was asked by a little girl what his favorite song of his was, and he asked her what hers was. She said “The Saga Begins” to which he replied, “Mine too!” This is not probably accurate, but it sure was a sweet interaction. He did get asked a lot what he favorite song or album was and he always deflected the question. As an artist, it’s a hard question for him to answer. Although he did reveal that his favorite album cover is Apocalypse.

Weird Al did reveal that the closest biographical song to him is, “White and Nerdy,” as that was basically him growing up. Weird Al was a insult that people said to him, and he just decided that he was going to embrace it and be the weird person he felt most comfortable being. And, it helped others to see that being weird wasn’t a bad thing. He said that, “Me being in the world makes them feel a little bit less weird.”

In talking about the movie parodied off his life, he confirmed that actually Daniel Radcliffe was his first choice for the role of himself. He said a few other names were thrown around, but it really was just going to be Daniel. He also gave Daniel accordion lessons to help with the role.

He was asked if there was a memory he’d love to relive and he said he loved his time on The Simpsons, Gravity Falls, and Adventure Time. He also loved playing at Carnegie Hall and that it was a “huge thrill”. He said there were so many to choose from, it was hard to pick. But, he did say that he hopes to eventually be able to maybe work on something Rick and Morty related. He loves voice acting, and would absolutely love to do more in that realm. His dream is to be in a Pixar film.

There were a few random questions asked that also made the audience laugh. His most hated number is 14. “It’s a stupid number. I hate it.” Looney Toons was his favorite growing up, and his favorite Muppet is Beeker. He made everyone laugh when he said that the song he listens to that changes the day around is “Mama Get The Hammer, There’s A Fly On The Baby’s Head.”

All in all, the panel was a blast and fans ate it up. Weird Al is such a fun singer and comedian, and sometimes it was hard to tell if the answers he gave were technically real or not, but either way, it was a fun time had by all.
