10 Millennial Viral Videos Stupider Than ‘Skibidi Toilet’

Every parent and teacher of Gen Alpha is moaning about Skibidi Toilet. If you’re over the age of fourteen and have no idea why ‘kids today’ are walking around shouting ‘skibidi’, it’s because of an internet meme about a race of heads in toilets trying to take over the world. Gen Alpha are currently being raised by Millennials, who should have more patience with them. As the first generation who went through puberty and college online, Millennials pioneered the stupid YouTube video. And they came up with plenty that were more annoying and made less sense than Skibidi Toilet.

10. 'They’re Taking The Hobbits To Isengard' (2006) – 39 Million Views

It’s amazing what can be achieved with a Casio keyboard and some clips from Lord of the Rings. Originally first appearing online as a flash animation, the YouTube version features clips from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. They’re Taking the Hobbits to Isengard is now so entrenched in LOTR lore that Orlando Bloom memed it on the set of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Most millennials just have to hear the chords, and they’ll start to sing along.

9. 'Salad Fingers' (2007) - 46 Million Views

Everyone remembers it, but no one was ever really sure what this was about. Salad Fingers liked spoons and red water. It’s been described as ASMR for psychopaths. At least Skibidi Toilet has some form of cohesive canon.

8. 'Dramatic Chipmunk' (2007) - 46 Million Views

Also known as Dramatic Look, Dramatic Beaver, or Dramatic Chipmunk. This five-second clip of a prairie dog turning its head was probably one of the most memed videos of the 2000s. The 46 million view count is just the original video; the popular alternative versions, such as the Star Wars Dramatic Chipmunk also hit high on the view count. Millennials watched that prairie dog on repeat. That wasn’t healthy.

7. 'Charlie The Unicorn' (2008) – 68 Million Views

At first glance, this animation looks cute. Charlie, a downbeat unicorn is constantly harassed by his two dramatic companions into nonsensical adventures. But it's definitely not aimed at children. Gen Alpha may be shouting ‘skibidi’ now, but back in 2008, Millennials were throwing out Charlie the Unicorn quotes. “The door!!!!” “Shun the non-believer!” “It’s a leoplurodone, Charlie.”  And it was much more confusing for parents and teachers.  

6. 'Shoes' (2007) – 69 Million Views

Kelly just wants some shoes.  Easy to understand, but the random purple dragon and the robot that also appears in the video not so much. But its creator Liam Kyle Sullivan won a People’s Choice award for the short. He also made cameos on hit shows Gilmore Girls, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and Alias. Sullivan also made his way into the Weezer video Pork and Beans.  But it's still stupider than Skibidi Toilet.

5. 'Chocolate Rain' (2007)– 138 Million Views

An original song by Tay Zonday that became famous for its synth and his breathe-away from the mic technique. Like most viral videos the lyrics to Chocolate Rain make no sense. It’s Zonday’s distinctive vocals and performance that most people remember.

4. 'Nyan Cat' (2011) – 203 Million Views

The original YouTube video was taken down due to a scam complaint, so the views are listed from its Wikipedia article. If you’re trying to work out what Nyan Cat is, it’s a kitty with a pop tart for a body, flying through space and leaving a rainbow trail.  That’s all it does. It just repeats. But you can watch up to one hundred hours of it if you want. At least Skibidi Toilet has some variation.

3. 'Potter Puppet Pals: The Mysterious Ticking Noise' (2007) - 205 Million Views

Millennials used to Harry Potter, really love Harry Potter. The obsession grew to the point where a metronome and some puppets were all that was needed to create a viral YouTube video that just would not quit, it won YouTube Awards, and was one of the most watched videos on the streaming platform. Potter Puppet Pals have done live performances and a 4K update. Since J.K Rowling decided to tweet certain viewpoints regularly, Millennials are a little shier about their love of the franchise, but this song is still burned into their brain.

2. 'Annoying Orange' (2009) – 260 Million Views

An orange with a face animation that can be easily replicated on TikTok with modern-day filters, but back in 2009 this was cutting edge. Annoying Orange irritates all the other foodstuffs in the kitchen until they inevitably get cut up, toasted, or eaten. Believe it or not, there are seven hundred and seventy-one episodes of this citrus fruit’s adventures. The highest rated is in the region of two hundred and sixty million views. Annoying Orange isn’t deep, it isn’t meta, and it’s for people with the sense of humor of a middle-schooler. It’s really, really stupid. Gen Alpha might actually like this one.

1. 'The Duck Song' (2011) -  650 Million Views

In 2011, a little duck that looked like it had been drawn in MS Paint took YouTube by storm. And it wasn’t just one song, oh no. This duck has an entire canon, including three songs, a spin-off Honey Bear, and a book.  Why does this duck want grapes so badly? It’s heartbreaking. The Duck Song is infinitely worse than Skibidi Toilet because the song gets stuck in your head and won’t leave. Millennials will be singing, “Have you got any grapes?” on their deathbeds.
