5 Interesting Facts About Quinlan Vos

Quinlan Vos first came into my life through comic books. The early 2000s were an exciting time for Star Wars media. It felt like we were always getting new stories, new characters, added depth to existing characters, and context to things we were already familiar with. The Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Battlefront video game franchises were absolutely exploding in popularity and Star Wars was beginning to make a splash on television. However, I usually preferred to get lost in the myriad of Star Wars comic books and books that were so common then.

It was through a series (now demarcated as Legends) of comics titled Star Wars: Republic, that Jedi Master Quinlan Vos first became a fascination of mine. He was unique in several ways. He had a striking yellow line across his face and tannish skin that looked like mine. He was cavalier like Anakin Skywalker and oftentimes held his lightsaber upside down, which at the time was less commonplace (later on several characters in Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2014, 2020) would do this, notably Asajj Ventress and Ahsoka Tano).  Now that Quinlan Vos has been mentioned in one of the most anticipated Star War projects of all time, the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022), we thought it was a good time to revisit the character and his legacy! Here are 5 interesting facts about Jedi Master Quinlan Vos!

5. He Has A Rare Force Ability

Psychometry, or retrocognition, is a very unique Force ability in the Star Wars universe. It is the ability to touch an object and gather intelligence about the people who were connected to it, or particular events that the object was involved in. We have seen the Jedi Cal Kestis possess this ability in Respawn Entertainment’s hit video game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. We also now understand that Rey Skywalker possesses this ability as well as hedged in Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) and confirmed in supplemental reference materials. Quinlan Vos introduced this ability to the Star Wars universe in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2014, 2020) television series titled “Hunt for Ziro.” The episode shows us how this ability makes him an effective detective.

4. He Worked With Obi-Wan Kenobi

The episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2014, 2020) titled “Hunt for Ziro”  allows us to see the renegade Jedi Master work with the beloved franchise staple Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Their task is to track down and arrest the fugitive Ziro the Hutt. Ziro is a brilliant strategist. It is explained that he is essentially a bookkeeper, therefore positioning himself as vital to the Hutt Council in terms of a keeper of potentially harmful secrets, an extraordinary intel asset, and a bargaining chip for the Republic if he were their prisoner. The duo’s styles clash but they ultimately find their stride and work on their assignment learning from each other’s approaches to the work of a Jedi.

3. He Survived Order 66

Keeping track of Star Wars canon was recently simplified. The Disney era has its share of contradictions (Caleb Dume’s escape from death in Order 66 in The Bad Batch is different from the Star Wars: Kanan comic book portrayal of the same event) but we understand that television and film take precedence in Disney’s canonical Star Wars stories. In the past we have understood that Quinlan Vos survived the events of Order 66, however, the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022) gave us a hard confirmation. The third episode of the series saw a downtrodden Obi-Wan Kenobi discover his old friend Quinlan Vos was not only alive but helping in the cause of saving younglings from the Empire.

2. He Was A Dark Side Apprentice

After a failed attempt to assassinate Count Dooku with the assistance of Asajj Ventress, Vos found himself under the persuasive thumb of the Sith Lord. He was given the title of admiral in the Confederacy of Independent Systems. His new name became Admiral Enigma.

1. He Loved Asajj Ventress

Asajj Ventress was once under the tutelage of Count Dooku. The Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2014, 2020) television series shows her immense dueling talent and Force abilities. She is often working on a secret mission (sometimes with General Grievous) that is hidden within a larger conflict. This relationship soured after the Separatists attacked her home planet. After Quinlan Vos’ time in the Jedi Order ended, he found love with the assassin. She was the reason he found himself after being Count Dooku’s apprentice.
