5 Interesting Facts About Tatiana Maslany
There's that old Disney magic once more. Mirroring the ascent of her fellow Marvel universe co-stars and the level of success they achieved upon stepping into the alternate universe of Marvel. Tatiana Maslany has also entered that realm of superstardom every actor works for.
If being cast as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk seemed like a lucky break for Maslany, it wasn’t. It is a validation that her 10,000 hours were time well spent. In a Vanity Fair video, she says as much:
"It's been a long journey for me, so it's strange to almost think of, you know, this sort of idea of a newcomer."
That was in 2014. By the time she was cast in Orphan Black, she’d already been acting for over a decade.

5. She Is Multi-Ethnic And Multi-Lingual
She shares Austrian, Polish, German, Romanian, and Ukrainian ancestry. Her mother speaks German among other languages (she's a translator); her grandparents also spoke German when she was around; therefore, she speaks German. Maslany showcased her fluency in speaking German in the Maria Altmann biopic Woman In Gold. She also speaks French and a smattering of Spanish.
4. Improvisation Background
After graduating high school, she toured with General Fools, her hometown of Regina, Saskatchewan's improv group. She competed in the Canadian Improv Games. With She-Hulk smashing the fourth wall often, there’s an inclination to assume that probably Maslany owes a lot of her technique to her mastery of the art form. It wouldn’t be a surprise considering Maslany is also a certified improv trainer.
3. In One Year, She Starred In 3 Horror Films
She filmed three horror films back in 2007. The films were The Messengers, Stir of Echoes: The Homecoming, and Diary of the Dead.
2. She Starred In A BBC Miniseries
By the first decade of the millennium, she’d already proven she could act, and mainstream media had her in their sights. In 2010's 4-part miniseries The Nativity, she portrayed Mary, not Magdalene (although that would have been more interesting if she did) but the mother of Jesus.
1. She Portrayed 14 Characters In One Show
Years before She-Hulk: Attorney-At-Law was even a concept, Maslany portrayed Sarah Manning in the BBC-distributed series Orphan Black. Being that she's just one among 14 clones, it goes without saying Tatiana Maslany must portray every clone that appeared in the series, which she did. These are not clones that are drones. They’re a unique bunch. Of the 14 clones, 5 had multiple appearances across all 5 seasons:
Sarah Manning (Protagonist)
Rachel Duncan (Antagonist)
Helena (A Brainwashed Serial Killer)
Alison Hendrix (Suburban Mother And Keeper of Secrets)
Cosima Niehaus (LGBTQ+ Clone Getting Her Ph.D.)
The fact that all 5 seasons received positive reviews is proof positive that Maslany's impressive talent is capable of carrying a show during its entire run.
The overall assessment of the She-Hulk series is still inconclusive. Critics will continue to be polarizing regarding She-Hulk: Attorney-At-Law, but that won't in any way detract from the already-proven acting prowess of one Tatiana Maslany.
