7 Things We Want To See In ‘Scream VII’
After last week’s announcement that Scream VII is officially a go and there will be a new director attached to the project, everyone is discussing what they want to see in the final installment of the franchise. As most Scream fans know, the original four films were directed by the legendary Wes Craven who sadly passed away back in 2015. Scream (2022) and Scream VI were directed by Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, but it has now been confirmed by the director himself that Scream VII will be directed by Christopher Landon who is known for films like Happy Death Day, Happy Death Day 2U, and Freaky. Since the seventh film is currently being marketed as the final installment in the franchise, here are seven things that I want to see in the film. WARNING: This article contains spoilers for the Scream franchise!
7. The Carpenter Sisters’ Mom
This is a character that, in my opinion, has to make an appearance or it leaves a massive plot hole in the final three films. In Scream (2022), Sam reveals that her mom slept with Billy Loomis while he and Sidney were on their break. This means that Sam was conceived during the 1996 film. Their mother is then mentioned again in Scream VI when we learn that she cut Sam off for telling Tara the truth. How are you going to link a new character to the original film and characters without ever showing them on-screen? She has to appear in the final film!

6. One Ghostface
In Scream 3, one of the best things about the film was that Roman was the only Ghostface. Up until the reveal, it was easy to imagine that it was two people, but when it was revealed to only be him, it made every kill that much more interesting. As much as I loved the three killers in Scream VI, I really want to see them perfectly execute a single Ghostface for the final film.
5. Actual Stakes
The one thing that Scream (2022) and Scream VI were missing were actual stakes for the characters. In Scream 2, Randy is killed as are Sidney’s best friend and boyfriend. There were actual stakes in the original films, and that is sorely lacking in the new movies. When it seemed like Mindy had died in that scene in Scream VI, it made the rest of the movie so much more intense. The final film has to bring in some actual stakes for these characters, and I hope that it is the sisters who we have to worry about.
4. Twist Involving The Legacy Characters
I know that the idea of Dewey’s death in Scream (2022) was that it was a massive twist, but honestly, it was one of the worst decisions that the writers could have made. His death was a waste and went against everything that his character had stood for since 1996. I have always wanted to see one of the legacy characters as Ghostface, and while I feel like that is a long shot there has to be some twist added to the final film since we currently only have one legacy character left, Gale.
3. Original Story
One of the biggest issues I had with Scream (2022) was that it felt like a cheap knockoff of the original film. It followed roughly the same structure as the original film, but with characters that were not anywhere close to as strong as the originals. Scream VI gave us a new setting and THREE KILLERS! While it still followed almost the same structure as Scream 2, it was different enough to keep it interesting. I am going to be really disappointed if Scream VII takes place on a film set rather than doing something unique and different with the story.
2. Ghostface Lives
In every Scream film thus far, Ghostface dies or we are led to believe that they have died by the end of the film. One of the most interesting things that the writers could do with this final film would be to have there be more than three acts and have Ghostface escape or be arrested. Wes Craven did something similar to this with Scream 4 when it was made to seem like Jill would escape, but she was still killed by the end.
1. Stu Macher
This is a big one for me and many Scream fans. Stu has never been confirmed as being dead, and Wes Craven actually had plans for him to be Ghostface in Scream 3, but the idea was scrapped after the Columbine tragedy. Matthew Lillard was an extra in Scream 3 and voiced flamethrower Ghostface as well as a party guest in Scream (2022). If this truly is the final installment then Stu should be involved in some way since Wes originally wanted his character to come back. There are so many different ways that he could be involved. Whether he is a killer or an unexpected ally, he has to be brought back!
