5 Pages Released From Marvel Comics 'Jedi Knights' Show Some Interesting Insights Into The Series
Since the release of The Phantom Menace, projects about the Jedi Order such as The Acolyte and the Prequel Trilogy in general, have largely focused on the “seeds” that were planted that would eventually germinate into the Order's downfall and that of the Republic. However, one writer, Marc Guggenheim (Legends of Tomorrow, X-Men Gold), has a different idea for the upcoming Marvel Star Wars comic series, Jedi Knights. Specifically, Guggenheim wants to focus on Prequel Trilogy-era Jedi such as Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu, Yoda, and others in the years before the Clone Wars and, more specifically, on what Obi-Wan Kenobi meant when he famously described the Jedi Knights to Luke as “guardians of peace and justice” in A New Hope.
“I love the idea that the Jedi are the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy,” Guggenheim told Polygon via email, “but there are surprisingly few examples of that out there — mainly because the Jedi get sucked into the Clone Wars. I’m as much of a fan of the Clone Wars as the next guy, but I really craved seeing the Jedi doing their thing on a non-war footing. That’s the great appeal of this new Jedi Knights series: We really get a chance to see what the Jedi did before the Clone Wars and their eventual fall.”

The upcoming Marvel Star Wars comic book series, written by Guggenheim with artwork by Madibek Musabekov (Star Wars: Obi-Wan, X-Men Red), focuses on a pair of Jedi Masters on missions across the galaxy with an overarching threat, according to Marvel. Guggenheim insists that the series is not an “apologia” for the Jedi but that at least the first ten issues are focused significantly less on the internal strife within the Republic and more on “Jedi being Jedi.”
Five preview pages from the upcoming series were recently released to the public by Marvel to showcase some examples of Guggenheim’s plans for the series, as well as feature a mysterious new “ninja-like” character named Corlis Rath. The Jedi Knights series hits comic store bookshelves on March 3rd. Additionally, an issue featuring Rath will also be available to fans on Free Comic Book Day on May 5th.
