Microsoft Teases 'Diablo IV' At Xbox Games Showcase With Necromancer Class Reveal
Microsoft took no time to remind folks that they acquired Activision and Blizzard. During the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase today Blizzard Entertainment showed off some new games in their pipeline. Including the highly anticipated Diablo IV, a top-down RPG from a franchise that has been around since the 1990s. The gameplay looks more unique and entertaining than in previous installments, with improved graphics and character animations.
The main focus in the trailer is the newest addition to the class roster for the upcoming game, the necromancer, a character class that stretches back to the game's roots. The trailer opens with a long cutscene that introduces the masters of the undead. The necromancer steps into action, raising the skull of her foe to focus her magic. The trailer ends with her walking into the village as a large group of undead materializes, waiting to answer her beck and call.

Diablo IV also introduces a new gameplay mechanic that is different from previous Diablo titles. Previous Diablo games would leave players with a large area to explore but each area was usually connected into sections of smaller areas and divided into acts that push the main plot forward. On the other hand, players will be able to freely traverse a completely non-linear open and ever-changing world in Diablo IV. There will also be a new area dedicated to PVP where players can challenge each other and the victors collect the loot dropped by the vanquished.
Fans will just have to keep their excitement in check for just a little longer as the game will release in 2023. Prepare your Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC for this next title in the classic Diablo franchise.
