It looks like there’s more to come from Lucasfilm’s publishing initiative known as The High Republic.

This November, from Penguin Random House publishing, Star Wars: The High Republic: Starlight Stories will hit bookshelves. It will be a compilation of original stories set during the High Republic era, some of which have appeared in Star Wars Insider Magazine, and some that will be exclusive to the book. All stories will be written by Cavan Scott, Charles Soule, and Justina Ireland. It will also be fully illustrated by Louie De Martinis. Also included are interviews with the people behind the new, and highly successful, publishing initiative.

  • “Past Mistakes” by Cavan Scott

  • “Shadows Remain” by Justina Ireland

Coming in at a total of 96 pages, it seems likely that that is the extent of the stories that will appear in the anthology. Not much more has been revealed beyond the information above and a release date of November 15. Preorders are available now on Amazon.

The High Republic is Lucasfilm’s latest publishing initiative. It began as “Project Luminous” back in September of 2018 to explore new stories and a new era in the Star Wars galaxy. Lucasfilm recruited writers Claudia Gray, Charles Soule, Daniel Jose Older, Justina Ireland, and Cavan Scott to Skywalker Ranch to work on the project, with a reportedly blank slate. The new era of the Star Wars galaxy encompasses the full range of media: comics, YA novels, adult novels, children’s books, and children’s novels. It will soon branch into video games and film with several projects planned and filming to be released in the coming year or so.

The first phase of the project has recently wrapped up, and at Star Wars Celebration not two months ago, titles and art for the upcoming second phase were revealed. It was also revealed that phase two would go back in time even further, 150 years before phase one to be precise. Phase one itself takes place 400 years before Episode I and is almost entirely removed from the connections of the Pre-Empire era save one, long-lived, short, green Jedi, Master Yoda.

Phase one saw the Jedi of the High Republic during a Republic golden age, but the stability and peace of that age are thrown into turmoil when the threat from a group of pirates and marauders known as the Nihil, led by a Marchion Ro, rises in the Outer Rim. The Jedi rise to meet the challenge, but they find themselves up against something that instills a feeling in the Jedi that most had thought controlled: fear.
