A Rare Gold Lego Piece Just Sold For $18,000

Of all of the communities out there, the collector community might be one of the most interesting. While collecting things from your childhood or a show or movie that you like makes sense, the amounts of money people drop on some things can be absolutely astounding. Just watch Pawn Stars and see what rare 80s toys are going for, to get an example. In this instance, we got our latest big toy sale.
We all know LEGO. It’s one of the top selling toys of all time. On average, there are 86 LEGO pieces for every person on Earth. And, as we can see, some of them are insanely valuable: a random box of jewelry donated to a local Pennsylvania Goodwill contained a one inch Lego piece, and it sold at auction for over $18,000.

The initial winning bid was $30,000, but when that person didn’t pay, they gave it to the second highest bid. The piece in question was a 14 carat gold LEGO Bionicle mask, of which only 25 were ever given out, making it one of the rarest LEGO pieces ever made.
Does that make this piece of gold the size of your pinky finger worth the price of a good used car? Well, that’s for you to decide. It was worth it to someone, though.
