'Baldur's Gate 3' Premiers Trailer At Summer Game Fest 2023
After 23 long years, Baldur’s Gate is getting another sequel. The Baldur’s Gate games are set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe and take place in Aldersgate. Baldur’s Gate 3 will use D&D 5th edition rules. The game will also feature a 4-player online multiplayer, split-screen, and couch co-op. The story of Baldur’s Gate 3 is “a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power.”
Jason Isaacs (star of Harry Potter and Star Trek Discovery) joins the team voicing antagonist Lord Enver Gortash. Lord Gortash's Steel Watchers vow to protect the city of Baldur’s Gate. Lord Gortash wants to usher in an age where only the strong decide who lives and who dies in the name of glory. Baldur’s Gate 3 allows players to explore hundreds of locations, so it looks to compare well against the 338 locations in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The Baldur’s Gate team has assured players that there are over 100 hours of gameplay.

As for catering to the player’s choice, Baldur’s Gate 3 will allow players to choose from many D&D races & subraces. The pure races include dragonborn, tiefling, drow, dwarf, gnome, elf, githyanki, high elf, halfling, human, and wood elf. There are several half-races to choose from as well. Only the half-orc and dragonborn are not accessible in the Baldur’s Gate 3 preview. Every race has distinct physical characteristics and provides special statistical bonuses. This allows players to experiment and fine-tune their character creations. As a bonus, players will build relationships with companions at their campsite, like in Dragon Age. Players will also adhere to a layered crime system. This system holds the player accountable for their actions by penalizing their reputation.
There are several classes available to choose from in Baldur's Gate 3. Classes that consist of a single primary are the cleric, rogue, warlock, wizard, sorcerer, and bard. Classes that use dual primaries are the fighter, ranger, druid, barbarian, paladin, and monk. Players will also have the option to communicate with the dead to uncover hidden lore. With such a diverse range of classes, players can experiment with different builds. This allows players to focus on their play style.
The release date for Baldur’s Gate 3 is on August 31st, 2023, on Mac, PS5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
