Disney+ Adds A Roster Of New Shows For October, Including Two Classic 'Spider-Man' Cartoons

It’s that time of the month again. Though it came a few days earlier than normal, the list of comings and goings for Disney+ in October 2022 is out there, and for the first time in a while, we’ve got some strong library additions. Some might even say spectacular.

When Disney+ first launched, most of the Spider-Man-titled animated series were on the service. Not just Ultimate and the 2017 series, but the Fox Kids-aired and earlier, including the 1981 series. There were three exceptions. The first is the 1967 series, which is where the theme song and most of the memes come from. Then there was Spider-Man: The New Animated Series, which is best known for being made for MTV and being a continuation of the first Raimi film before the films resumed and supplanted it. And finally, there’s The Spectacular Spider-Man, run by Gargoyles and Young Justice’s Greg Weisman, considered in very high regard for animation in general, and its cancellation one of the hardest-hitting. The latter two can now be checked off.

Spider-man anomated

That’s right, Spectacular and The New Animated Series are headed to Disney+ on October 19. The exact circumstances of how this came to be are unknown, but something had to have been worked out with Sony. In July, The Spectacular Spider-Man was added to Netflix, to a lot of fanfare in animation circles. It is unknown as of writing whether they’ll share it, but nothing is indicating it won’t. In addition, the listing of its 26 episodes as a single season may be the reason only one season is listed as arriving on Disney+. The MTV series is only 13 episodes. However, preschool favorites Bear in the Big Blue House and PB&J Otter will add their complete series on the date, and Sofia the First finally makes the jump from Netflix the week before, bringing in nearly 300 episodes on their own. It has been a while since this many full library series have been added to Disney+, it’s quite the nice swing.
