Disney Announces 'Gargoyles' Will Receive A Video Game Remaster During D23 Panel

In a blink-and-you-miss-it announcement on Friday at the D23 Expo, Disney announced that the Gargoyles video game was finally getting a remaster treatment.
Originally released on the Sega Genesis in 1995, the game is loosely based on the cartoon’s plot that aired during the infamous Disney Afternoon block of programming from 1994 to 1997. Consisting of 5 levels, each with its own boss battle, players controlled Goliath, the leader of the Gargoyles, as they fought the Eye of Odin, a talisman that transformed anyone who touched it. The game was well-received by critics and gamers alike, achieving a rating of 8.5 from Game Informer at the time of release. It also drew favorable comparisons to its predecessors, Aladdin and The Lion King.
The cartoon was known for complex story arcs and dark tones (especially for a children’s show). It also featured numerous Star Trek alums, including Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis as main characters, and Michael Dorn, Kate Mulgrew, Nichelle Nichols, and Brent Spiner with recurring roles.
While not many details were revealed, the game is planned to be released on both console and PC with updated controls and visuals. Empty Clip Studios will develop. If you’re feeling nostalgic, Gargoyles is streaming on Disney+.
