Disney Investors Vote For Future Of The Company

It is a well-known fact in finance that a company’s investors have a lot of power. It appears that no company is immune to this…as even Disney has to deal with it. The main issue comes down to whether or not they think Bob Iger’s successor will be successful, and if Disney can choose someone who the investors are comfortable with. Bob Chapek was originally chosen in 2020 but was quickly shown to be unfavorable by investors, causing Disney to revert back to Iger.

Joseph Amato, chief investment officer and president of Neuberger Berman, and one of Disney’s investors said: “We don’t think it would create undue harm for shareholders to have another couple of independent eyes and ears.” The investment firm has a stake in Disney worth approximately $254 million, accounting for 0.1% ownership of the company.

New York City retirement systems also hold some interest in the company and are said to be “focused on a strategic transformation,” according to New York City Comptroller Brad Lander.

Other parties with some influence include Star Wars and Indiana Jones creator George Lucas and Laurene Powell Jobs, who is the widow of Steve Jobs. There will be a company meeting discussing the issue of future Disney leaders on April 3.
