'Dragon Ball Super' Wins Award For Best Anime Film Of 2022
The latest Dragon Ball film, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, has won the 2022 ComicBook.com Golden Issue award for the best anime movie for 2022. It beats out other nominees such as One Piece Film: Red, Drifting Home, Fruits Basket: Prelude, and Suzume no Tojimari.
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was very positively received by fans and non-fans alike, and it broke a box-office record previously owned by Pokémon: The First Movie (1999). The film also is the first in its series to completely utilize computer-generated animation rather than the style used in the previous films while still capturing Akira Toriyama’s style well.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero follows the return of the Red Ribbon Army as they try to take over the world once more with the help of Dr. Gero’s grandson, Dr. Hedo. The film also sees the return of fan-favorite villain Cell in a more monstrous form. There is a focus on Piccolo and Gohan and their new forms rather than on Goku and Vegeta, unlike in past Dragon Ball projects. This is perhaps why the film beat out other hard hitters that were nominated for the award.
Congrats to everyone who made this film possible!
