Entertainment Journalist Scott Wampler Passes Away

Texas-based entertainment journalist Scott Wampler passed away on May 31 of this year. While his birth year is unknown, he has indicated previously either 1980 or 1981. The news was revealed by Wampler’s longtime friend and co-host of the Kingcast, Eric Vespe. Vespe revealed that he didn’t “know many details, but I know it was sudden and he was with friends.”
Wampler was born in Plano, Texas, growing up in the Dallas area, and moving to Austin as an adult. His fame as an entertainment journalist rose to national prominence when he joined the staff of Birth.Movies.Death. While at the Alamo Drafthouse-owned website and magazine, Wampler had injected a playful tone into coverage, often making remarks on how serious fans could treat news regarding entertainment.

Among the many publications Wampler contributed to was Collider, where his articles had a focus on the artworks used to advertise films. In later years, he would join the staff of Fangoria, a horror magazine-turned-website. During his tenure at Fangoria, Wampler joined the world of podcasting. Co-creating and co-hosting Stephen King-focused Kingcast, and Hellraiser podcast Jesus Wept. Wampler and Vespe were also producing a new project before Wampler’s passing.
Plenty of people have taken to social media to remember Wampler, including Guillermo del Toro, Brian Lynch, and Ash Crossan. Eric Vespe had a descriptive statement to give about his friend. “I don’t know what to say right now other than he was a singular presence. Hunter Thompson would have called him ‘one of God’s own prototypes, a high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production.’ That’s the Scott I knew. Hilarious, infuriating, singular.”
