Epic Games Triumphs Over Google's Play Store In Antitrust Lawsuit

An epic precedent was just set as Fortnite’s creator studio Epic Games won an antitrust case against Google. This antitrust case accused Google and its app store of operating illegally as a monopoly.
As stated in the case, Epic alleged that Google ties their billing service and the Play store in such a way that allows them to manipulate the money flow and collect exorbitant fees from the developers who wished to have their apps in the store.
These allegations resulted in a ruling in favor of Epic Games, maybe starting a revolution in mobile purchasing, unlike anything we’ve seen before. There is a solid chance that this anticompetitive behavior from Google will result in the titan losing ground regarding its current monopoly of Android-powered devices’ app stores.

"The trial has shone a very bright light on what Google has done to impair the competition," a lawyer for Epic, Gary Bornstein, stated during the final allegations of the trial.
Epic Games had a similar case against Apple back in 2020 from which it didn’t emerge victorious. However, the game studio asked the U.S. Supreme Court to revisit the case, which puts Apple in a position to fight the claims if it wishes to maintain the current rules for the App Store.
We may be experiencing a revolution in the gaming industry and a tackle to the current monopolies existing in both the gaming and mobile industries.
