'Harry Potter' TV Series On HBO Looking To Cast Nick Frost

As the development continues for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series, casting is slowly being settled upon. A new actor appears to be on his way to joining the mix. According to Variety, Nick Frost is in talks to play the Keeper of Keys and Grounds and Care of Magical Creatures professor Rubeus Hagrid. In response to the rumors, HBO stated, “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we proceed through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”
Frost is an experienced comedian, actor, and writer. He has appeared in various works across several mediums over the years, including the voice of Merlin in Scooby-Doo! The Sword and the Scoob (2021), Richard in Get Away (2024), himself in Staged, a pawnbroker in Tomb Raider (2018), the voice of Chris in the game Augmented Empire (2017), Ed in Shaun of the Dead (2004), and most recently as the voice of SM-33 in Skeleton Crew. While his casting isn’t set in stone yet, Frost stated that something is “actually happening” on social media, implying that an announcement is on the way, related or otherwise.

HBO’s Harry Potter television series is a reboot of the films, taking a deeper dive into the books and expounding upon the Wizarding World. The number of seasons and episodes per season have not been named yet. Francesca Gardiner will serve as the series’ showrunner. J.K. Rowling will be a part of the executive production team. The series aims for a 2026 release; upon release, it will be available to stream exclusively on Max.
