HBO Renews 'The Last Of Us' For A Second Season After Record-Setting Premiere
It seems as if the stigma behind TV shows and movies based on video games is dead. After having the second-largest premiere of any HBO show since 2010, behind only House of The Dragon, The Last of Us has been renewed for a second season after only two weeks.
Based on the video game made by Naughty Dog, the show stays true to its roots. Joel (Pedro Pascal), is hired to help 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of a quarantine zone 20 years after civilization has collapsed. The two characters then realize that they’re both in for far more than they bargained for, and need to depend on each other for survival as they cross the United States.

The first episode now has over 22 million viewers in the US alone, and the episode 2 premiere got over 5.7 million viewers, with the series trending as #1 on Twitter, both in America and worldwide.
Neil Druckmann commented on the show’s success. “I’m humbled, honored, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey. The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast & crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations.”
Other stars in addition to Pascal and Ramsey include Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Melanie Lynskey, Storm Reid, Merle Dandridge, Jeffrey Pierce, Lamar Johnson, Keivonn Woodard, Graham Greene, Elaine Miles, Ashley Johnson, and Troy Baker.
