Here Comes The Straw Hat Crew: Netflix Releases Teaser Trailer For Live-Action 'One Piece' Series During Tudum Festival
Among the many announcements at Netflix’s Tudum Festival, anime fans were excited to have a trailer and release date for the live-action One Piece. The trailer sees a young Monkey D. Luffy, played by Iñaki Godoy, becoming captivated by the sea and aspiring to become the King of the Pirates. Through the rest of the trailer, Luffy gathers his Straw Hat Crew with Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Ronora Zono, Taz Skyler as Sanji, and Jacob Gibson as Usopp. Although he is not present in the trailer, Peter Gadiot will play the role of Shanks in the live-action adaptation. The trailer shows moments of tension and reluctance among the fledgling crew and a glimpse of Luffy’s Rubber powers. The final scene shows Luffy making a joke about calling out his finishing moves like all the best fighters.
Matt Owens and Steven Maeda are the showrunners in charge of the series. This adaption is based on the manga by Eiichiro Oda, who will be an executive producer. One Piece will release on Netflix on August 31 of 2023. The streaming platform’s other live-action anime project Avatar: The Last Airbender, was teased at Tudum with the symbols and the four nations and a 2024 release window.
