In Industry First, Marvel VFX Artists Vote Unanimously To Unionize
At a time when Hollywood workers are pushing for their rights after writers and actors have made stands against the establishment, visual effects artists are now banding together. 41 workers were eligible to vote, although some declined the opportunity to vote. The 32 who did vote unanimously voted to unionize. The vote took place on September 13th, although they have had the ability to do so since August.
Mark Patch, a VFX organizer for IATSE spoke out on behalf of his colleagues. “For almost half a century, workers in the visual-effects industry have been denied the same protections and benefits their coworkers and crewmates have relied upon since the beginning of the Hollywood film industry. This is a historic first step for VFX workers coming together with a collective voice demanding respect for what we do.”
