Lisa Takeuchi Cullen Will Be The First Person Of Color To Become President of WGAEast
A happy occurrence has come out of the continuing writer’s strike. The next president of the WGA East will make history as the third female and first person of color to hold the position.
Lisa Takeuchi Cullen, who currently serves as the Vice President of the Film, Streaming, and TV sector, is running unopposed for the position. An Asian-American, Takeuchi Cullen was in the process of developing multiple drama series as part of a deal with Universal TV before the strike began. She most recently served as co-executive producer on The Endgame. Her pilot for the Charlie Cox-led series The Ordained was produced by CBS.
Before working with the WGA, Takeuchi Cullen was a writer and foreign correspondent for Time magazine. She is the author of two books, Remember Me: A Lively Tour of the American Way of Death and Pastors’ Wives: A Novel. In a thread on her official Twitter, Takeuchi Cullen laid out her plans to lead the WGAE through the strike and into the future.

The current president, Michael Winship, will not seek reelection after serving six terms, including five consecutive terms from 2007-2017. He will remain in office through September and pledged to help the guild as long as he is able.
