Clown in a Cornfield has finally gotten a trailer, and it's a Red Band trailer! The movie is an adaptation of the Bram Stoker Award-winning horror novel by Adam Cesare that took BookTok by storm in 2020 and 2021. RLJE Films and Shudder are distributing the Eli Craig-directed film, which will have its world premiere at SXSW on March 10 and will hit theaters on May 9. The movie is being produced by Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, who brought us Smile along with John Fischer for Temple Hill. The film is also sporting an R-rating for “bloody horror violence,” and director Eli Craig has promised that the movie is “an insanely fun, action, horror, comedy.” There is no word yet on whether or not Cesare’s other books in the series, Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives, Clown in a Cornfield 3: The Church of Frendo, or the upcoming fourth book, will also get film adaptations.
The film follows Quinn and her father, who have just moved to Kettle Springs. The town is divided in half, with the adults on one side and the teens and young adults on the other. After the town’s Baypen Corn Syrup Factory burnt down, the town fell on hard times, and the tension is only getting worse. When the town’s teens decide to hold a party, they are soon face-to-face with Frendo. He had always been the town’s mascot since he was painted on the local factory, but now he is out for blood. Frendo is arriving just in time for summer and promises to bring plenty of laughs and screams.
