Over 30 Minutes Of New Footage For 'The Exorcist' Was Released Online

Horror film history was made when The Exorcist was released. As with any film, different portions didn’t make the final cut, and some of these cut portions were thought to be lost to history; it turns out that not all were lost! Author and filmmaker Paul Davis got ahold of some outtakes and deleted scenes, sharing them in a commentary style on his YouTube channel. Davis provides context alongside the clips, what they are, and where they would fit within the context of the film. A couple of clips may have been shown through other The Exorcist content before, but a majority of it has never seen the light of day until now!
The highlights of this mostly never-before-seen footage include clips of the “Washington Sightseeing Trip,” a deleted sequence from the film, several angles of the spider-walk scene, and a unique makeup test for Captain Howdy/Pazuzu among other things. This new footage comes at an interesting time, as 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the film. Check out the full commentary below!

The latest film in the franchise, The Exorcist: Believer is out now; it is a new follow-up to The Exorcist, set several decades after its events. A sequel to Believer, currently titled The Exorcist: Deceiver, is slated for an April 2025 release. With the release of Believer, there are now six complete installments to the franchise.
The first five films are sprinkled throughout a few streaming platforms. The Exorcist and its sequel can be streamed on Max. The Exorcist III and Exorcist: The Beginning can be streamed on Hulu and Peacock, the former also being on Prime Video. Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist, the earliest set prequel in the franchise, can be streamed on Peacock. Believer is still circling through theaters, with a possible future on Peacock as well considering its distribution ties to Universal Pictures.
