Season 2 Of 'The Rings Of Power' Is About To Begin Filming

It looks like The Rings of Power will be going back to New Zealand for location shoots.

TheOneRing.net tweeted today that they received word the second season of the show is due to start shooting on 7th October. In the tweet, they revealed the locations where filming would take place. It was reported back in August of 2021 that season two production would move from New Zealand to the UK, so it was a surprise to see the tweet today announcing that production would include New Zealand as well. Edinburgh, Scotland, and Water Oakley in England were the other locations announced in the tweet.

New Zealand seems to be the default filming location for Middle-earth locales, with Peter Jackson setting the precedent back with the filming of The Lord of the Rings. It’s hard to speculate, though, what the inclusion of Scotland means for analogous locations within Middle-earth, especially with the first season only half finished. It makes sense to go back to New Zealand, given its association with the Tolkien universe since the early 2000s.

Season two was already green-lit before the first episode of season one aired, solidifying Amazon’s commitment to the series. There had been some rough patches in the development and information releases leading up to the debut of the series, but so far the show seems to have been well received.

Episode five of season one airs this Friday on Amazon Prime Video.
