Right after a new trailer for Sonic Prime has been released, there has been a small influx of new information being released about the upcoming Netflix animated series. As mentioned in the trailer, the series will be released in the Winter of 2022. What was not mentioned, however, was that this would be the release date for the show’s first eight episodes. In addition, the first episode is reportedly going to be 40 minutes long, with the remaining seven being 20 minutes long. The idea seems to be to release the episodes in waves rather than all at once, similar to other shows such as Cuphead.

Another piece of information regarding the show’s characters has also been released. So far, it has been confirmed that most of the canon game cast will appear in the series, but since the multiverse seems to be a huge part of this shows plot, many people have wondered if characters from other media, such as those from the 1993 Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon (known amongst fans as Sonic SatAm due to its Saturday morning timeslot) and the characters from the more recent IDW comics, will make an appearance. An animator for the series has answered this question in the comments of a TikTok interviewing the animators, saying,

“SATAM characters, no. As for the rest, not sure I’m allowed to say.”

While this has closed the door for Sally Acorn, Antoine, Rotor, and other characters from that era making an appearance in Sonic Prime, it leaves the door open for characters from the popular IDW comics such as Tangle, Whisper, Surge, and others.

Sonic Prime speeds onto Netflix in Winter 2022.
