PS4 and PS5 gamers have used X, formerly known as Twitter to share and view content, trophies, and other gameplay-related activities with an integration history with the social media platform that goes back at least ten years. This ability to post and view directly through the gaming console is expected to end on November 13. Despite daily posts being in the thousands, Sony failed to update the branding within the app to reflect the Elon Musk-owned platform’s name change. Gaming enthusiasts typically post things such as game clips and/or screenshots with hashtags such as #PS4Share and #PS5Share.

Gamers will still be able to post their gaming activities to X, however, they won’t be able to achieve that directly through their systems any longer. This will mean simply adding a step to the process. The easiest method of doing so will be to download Sony’s official PlayStation app for Android or iOS. The app will allow users to transfer their media from the PlayStation console to their mobile device and then of course they can share that to X. The decision to pull the plug on integration with X is not new to the industry. Microsoft removed integration between X and Xbox just last year.
