Sony Reveals The Cover For 'God Of War Ragnarök' Alongside New Combat Features
In the run-up to the imminent November release of God of War: Ragnarök, the sequel to the franchise reboot God of War (2018), Sony has revealed a slew of new combat features and gameplay mechanics in an exclusive interview with GameInformer.
In an interview with lead combat designers Mihir Sheth and Denny Yeh, fans will be pleased to discover an evolution of the previous game's addition to series protagonist Kratos's arsenal- the Leviathan Axe. Alongside the iconic chained Blades of Chaos, the enchanted axe has received a revamp- with the addition of Signature Weapon Moves, activated by pressing the Triangle button. With either weapon readied, pressing Triangle will allow players to infuse their in-hand weapon with ice (Frost Awaken) or fire (Whiplash). These elemental infusions will give players an edge in their task to thwart Ragnarök- coming up against an increased variety of enemies in both old and new territories.
The shield, too, has received an update. The new Dauntless and Stonewall shields (alongside others that will be available to players) offer different paths for those with a more tactical edge in mind. It is yet to be seen whether Kratos will gain any other addition to his primary arsenal or if 'the boy' Atreus will receive any new abilities.
Issue 349 of GameInformer Magazine will delve further into gameplay updates, quality of life updates, new accessibility options and a brand new Dwarven realm for players to explore with the significant changes to the game's exploration and action. Exclusive interviews with new series director Eric Williams and lead designers and developers for the game at Sony Santa Monica will get fans buzzing for the expansive new chapter in the God of War franchise.
