The Classic 'Star Wars Battlefront' Games Are Coming To The Nintendo Switch

During the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase of February 2024, it was announced that Aspyr is bringing the classic Star Wars Battlefront games to the Nintendo Switch. As with other Aspyr ports of classic Star Wars games, this collection will also be making its way to PS4 and PS5.

The two games featured here are 2004’s Star Wars Battlefront, the game that introduced players to the Battlefront experience, and 2005’s Star Wars Battlefront II, which expanded greatly on the first to include a lot more content. Both games will have their online features restored to allow for 64 player online action across the many maps of the series.

The 2004 game includes 17 maps in total, including the bonus map of Jabba’s Palace, which was originally DLC for the PC version. The 2005 game sees a much greater expansion thanks to the DLC that was originally only for the Xbox release of the game. This includes the bonus maps of Bespin: Cloud City, Rhen Var: Harbour, Rhen Var: Citadel, and Yavin 4: Arena, which were all brought forward from the first game. Two new heroes, Kit Fisto, and Asajj Ventress, will be available to use on these maps and in the Hero Assault mode.

Speaking of that mode, the original Xbox DLC expanded it to be playable on more maps, but this collection will allow it to be playable on all ground maps. That means the ultimate battle of light and dark can take place on the Death Star, Kamino, and even Naboo. Conquest XL, a mode that was exclusive to the PC version of the game that increased the reinforcements on the map at once, will be included in this collection. For the PlayStation versions of this collection, trophy support will be added.

All modes that were featured in the original release of these games will remain in place, allowing for the campaigns of Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront II to be explored. The same is also true for Galactic Conquest, the mode which had two factions fighting for control of the galaxy. Two-player split-screen multiplayer will also return.

“Thank you for 20 Years!” Aspyr says within the press release. “We hope you enjoy reliving iconic battles from across the Star Wars galaxy.” This collection makes for a great celebration of Star Wars Battlefront, with it releasing on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on March 14.
