Writers And Execs Named For 'The Wheel Of Time' Prequel Movie About Age Of Legends
With two seasons under its belt, Amazon Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time, adapted from Robert Jordan’s 15-book epic fantasy story, ended on a high note. It’s a note high enough for a prequel trilogy to be green-lit for a script and production. The supposed title of the first film is simply The Age of Legends, and will tell the story of how the Dark One emerged and led the world into chaos and destruction. It will feature a look at how the Forsaken came to fall to his influence, and how heroes emerged to challenge that same influence.
Kari Skogland, Emmy-award-winning director of great shows like The Handmaid’s Tale and House of Cards, has been tasked with directing the first movie. The screenplay will be tackled by Zack Stentz, and it will be produced by Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon of iwot productions, as well as Ted Field of Radar Pictures. Selvage and Mondragon are currently executive producers for the TV show that serves as a sequel to these movies. They’ll join Eva Longoria, James Leon, Mike McGuiness, and Justin Smith, who are set to Executive Produce.

The Wheel of Time books are expansive, stretching 15 books in length, 14 of which are the main story, and one of them is a prequel book. Most of the books are well over 500 pages and contain some of the deepest world-building in epic fantasy. The story in the books and the show takes place thousands of years before what these movies will detail. The Age of Legends is a time referred to in the books and the show as a time of incredible advances and a blending of science and the One Power, the fantasy world’s source of magic.
The Prime television show gave a brief glimpse into the Age of Legends with a flashback to when Lews Therin Telamon, known as the Dragon and Rand’s former life, was going to seal away the Dark One. In this flashback, they showed a city that resembled modern cities, with towering skyscrapers, but also with an air of futurism behind them, showing flying personal vehicles as well. By the time of the main story, few of these structures remain, having been leveled during the Breaking of the World or covered by nature over time.
