Xbox Had Their Summer Game Fest Showcase Today, Here's The Highlights
This is now day three of the Summer Game Fest, and after a great first day with a lot of reveals and hope for the video game industry, Xbox held their Game Fest showcase today with a slew of trailers for upcoming games. The four-day fest of video games that has seemingly replaced E3 will end tomorrow, June 10, with the Ubisoft Forward.
Xbox started its showcase with a bang, showing off the next game in the Doom franchise, The Dark Ages. This time around, Doom Guy comes with a shield, one that he can throw around like Captain America, but this one has saw blades to do maximum carnage as only Doom Guy can. Not to be complacent, id Software and Bethesda decided it was time for Mecha Doom Guy so he could take on the big bads at their level. There also seems to be a dragon that Doom Guy can fly, so there’s that. Doom: The Dark Ages comes out in 2025.

Following the Doom reveal, there were trailers for the zombie survival game State of Decay 3, as well as the newly named Dragon Age sequel, Veilguard. The Dragon Age trailer introduced the main cast, most of whom are new, but there are some returning faces, as well as the suggestion that character creation will be a focus of the game. This was succeeded by a trailer for an upcoming Starfield expansion that has horror and religious air to it, perhaps hints of influence from Dead Space. It seems to center around the cultish House of Va’ruun, one of the governing bodies that exist within settled space.
Some of the other reveals include a sort of remake of long-time favorite RTS game Age of Mythology, this one titled Age of Mythology: Retold, as well as the first look at Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the remake of MGS 3. Another game, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, a souls-like action RPG, was also announced, releasing this year. Xbox also provided the first trailer for the upcoming expansion to Diablo IV, which will include a new class for players to explore, titled Vessel of Hatred.
Two other huge announcements and previews were for a reboot of the Perfect Dark franchise that looked stunning and everything the older games dreamed, as well as a first trailer look at a Gears of War prequel, titled E-Day that seems to feature a younger Marcus Fenix and his friends as the Locust emerge and the war begins. There was also a longer trailer for the upcoming Indiana Jones game from Machine Games, as well as new trailers for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, and Fable. To cap it all off was an in-depth direct on the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
