Ebon Moss-Bachrach Discusses Season Two Of 'The Bear', Including Big Fight Scene
Despite the popular saying, too many cooks in the kitchen isn’t always a bad thing—particularly for The Bear’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The actor, who appeared in both The Punisher and Andor, reflected on The Bear’s critically acclaimed second season in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. The Bear follows Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), a young chef forced from the world of fine dining to manage his family’s Italian beef sandwich shop, The Beef, in the wake of his brother’s suicide. Moss-Bachrach plays Richie Jerimovich, de facto manager of The Beef, who frequently butts heads with Carmy over the state of the shop and its unruly staff.
Season two saw many of The Bear’s lead characters whisked (pun intended) away from the kitchen, attempting to hone their culinary skills as the restaurant reopens as The Bear. This creative decision was praised by critics but left Moss-Bachrach missing the dynamic of ensemble scenes. He told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s really fun for me to have a day with everyone together, and those kitchen scenes feel very volatile alive — and it’s just a really nice group of people and I enjoy spending the day with them.”

Moss-Bachrach compares the chaos of those kitchen scenes to a moment in season two when his character, Richie, finds himself working in a quiet, Michelin-starred kitchen. “Well, it was lonely,” he reflected. “I embraced it, because I think that was similar to the way Richie was feeling.” He had hoped that Richie would find some kind of personal victory in season two after losing so much in season one.
While Richie does celebrate some personal victories in season two, Moss-Bachrach compared the character’s explosive joy to his equally forceful anger, reflected in a final fight between Carmy and Richie. Richie’s character returns to a dark place after celebrating success, which Moss-Bachrach views as a triumph of writing. He reflected, “Right after he’s had this success, we find him back in his car having a dark, accusatory conversation, and I think that’s so smart and true to life.”
Smart writing and deep character work have earned immense praise for The Bear and left audiences everywhere eager to see what’s cooking for season three.
The Bear is available to stream on Hulu.
