Hector Elizondo, Acclaimed Actor And ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Veteran, Voices Romar Abdell In ‘The Bad Batch’

Lucasfilm always has the best voice artists for its animated shows: Sam Witwer, James Arnold Taylor, Vanessa Marshall, Tom Kane, and Dee Bradley Baker, to name only a few, have put their unmistakable stamp on characters like Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hera Syndulla, Yoda, and the clone troopers. Aside from these more or less full-time voice actors, the company has also utilized the vocal talents of actors better known for their live-action projects, like Lars Mikkelson (Grand Admiral Thrawn in Rebels), Tom Baker (the Bendu in Rebels), and Katee Sackhoff (Bo Katan in both The Clone Wars and Rebels). The newest addition to this roster is Hector Elizondo.
The son of a notary public and an accountant who had moved from Puerto Rico to New York to find a better life, Hector Elizondo was born in December 1936. His acting career began in 1963, and he has appeared in more than 160 roles since then, both on the big and the small screen. He will be familiar to an older audience from playing Barnard Thompson in Pretty Woman (1990), Fisher in Runaway Bride (1999), and Joe in The Princess Diaries (2001). More recently, he has voiced Commissioner Gordon in The LEGO Batman Movie (2017), played Ed Alzate in the sitcom Last Man Standing (2011- 2021) as well as Harry Milton in B Positive (2021- 2022). He has also won an Emmy for his recurring role as Dr. Phillip Watters in Chicago Hope.

Throughout his career, Elizondo frequently jumped between film and television roles, as well as live-action and animation projects. He is no stranger to voice-acting (What's New Scooby-Doo?, Justice League, Mickey and the Roadster Racers, and Avatar: The Last Airbender to name only a few). Usually staying on a project for just one or a few episodes, his brief appearances are always memorable, nonetheless, and it looks like Elizondo's portrayal of Romar Abdell is no different.

Since 2002's Attack of the Clones, every Star Wars fan is aware of the sinister character of Count Dooku. The former Jedi and later Sith was not only the leader of the Separatists but also the ruler of his homeworld Serenno. Through Romar Abdell, a simple citizen of Serenno, both the audience and the Clone Force 99 got to know another aspect of Dooku's character. While much of the incredible wealth that Dooku had amassed during the Clone Wars came from planets sympathetic to the Separatists’ cause, Dooku was also not shy to act like the Sheriff of Nottingham in taking from the poor and keeping it for himself.
Forced to flee to the woods after the Empire's bombardment of Serenno, Romar loathed the new regime as much as the Republic before it. While he was also let down by the leader of his homeworld, he did not drown in despair, giving Omega a kaleidoscope as a toy and also risking his own life to help Hunter and his crew escape from Serenno.

It is not likely that Romar Abdell will appear in The Bad Batch again, but his small role was important enough to change the Bad Batch's view on the citizens of former Separatists' worlds.
