WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE BAD BATCH SEASON 2

Among the new Imperial troops, the second season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch has debuted Captain Wilco, a clone captain who is leading the operation on Serenno, the homeworld of Count Dooku. Despite not having appeared in any of the films or other television shows previously, Captain Wilco might have been indirectly referenced or appeared in Star Wars media. With Wilco making his official appearance in the second season, he has proven himself to be a capable antagonist.

In his first television appearance, Captain Wilco’s cunning and efficacy show through when he effortlessly finds the Bad Batch and correctly anticipates their plans, successfully cutting off their escape routes. A formidable trooper and a threat to our protagonists, Captain Wilco was certainly someone who would have been an integral part of the second season.

However, Captain Wilco’s loyalty and ethics would lead to his downfall when he refuses to write a false report concerning Clone Force 99 as ordered by Vice Admiral Rampart. The Bad Batch was believed to have perished on Kamino, and their presence on Sereno would cause Rampart to “lose the favor” of Tarkin. Rather than face his own failures, Rampart shoots Wilco, causing the clone trooper to stumble off the cliffside of the Imperial shipyard. With one decision, all the good Captain Wilco had done and could have done was a wash.

Rampart’s selfishness meant more than the life of possibly one of his most loyal and competent troopers. Though his time on The Bad Batch was short, Captain Wilco’s departure will surely be felt. Time will tell whether Wilco will be remembered or forgotten.
