The 5 Adventures We Think Should Be Tackled Involving Luke's Academy

The feelings about Luke’s Jedi Academy are somewhat mixed within the community of Star Wars fans. Many disagree with Luke’s actions regarding his first student, Grogu, and when we know the school will fail, catastrophically, there is a sense of doom to it all.

There is also the varied appearance of the Academy across the years of media which many view as inconsistent (though YouTuber Star Wars Centralized has a great video posing a theoretical layout to make almost every detail fit together). Despite this, many are still hoping we’ll get stories set at the Academy sooner rather than later to help fill in the nearly three decades between the Original Trilogy, and the Sequel Trilogy. While the chance is slim that something regarding this topic will come up at Celebration, CultureSlate thinks the time is right to explore some of the more interesting ideas for what stories might be told!

5. Exploring Ossus

Some of the most notable lore from Legends regarding Luke’s Academy involved various students of his exploring the ruins of Yavin, and accidentally awakening the trapped spectre of Exar Kun that dwelt within. Ossus in canon almost certainly won’t have a background as colorful as that, but canon Ossus does match its Legends counterpart as an ancient world with a Jedi connection.

Showing some adventures by younger Jedi exploring their new home, meeting whoever else might live on the planet, and maybe uncovering some old mysteries or ruins would be very charming and some small-scale storytelling that would help add local lore to an otherwise rather mysterious location.

4. Luke’s First Students (Not Ben)

To have those small adventures, however, we need Luke’s first students. We caveat this to exclude Ben Solo not because we wouldn’t want him to be involved in these stories, but because we know little about Luke’s students in this era. At present, besides unnamed Younglings and Padawans visually depicted in comics like The Rise of Kylo Ren or mentioned in stories like Shadow of the Sith, we have three other students: Hennix, a Quarren, and Tai and Voe, two humans.

We think that this would be a chance to not just show a plurality of aliens old and new, but to also show us some unique cultures and origins for certain students even if they are humans. Through them, we can see how Luke approached matters like attachment to family and one’s origins, currently unclear since Ben may have been an exception in retaining contact with Leia and Han, or part of Luke’s methods. Seeing a miniseries, or short story collection, each focused on a new Jedi learner, would be great. It would allow for a diversity of stories exploring Ossus, exploring relationships between each student, and lastly, exploring their time on the grounds of Luke’s Jedi Academy. Everyone loves a fun special boarding school narrative!

3. Luke and Lor

In the same way everyone loves a good boarding school story, everyone also loves a great class field trip! Young Jedi Adventures has shown us countless fun excursions both organized by the Jedi and undertaken by the Younglings on their own, and The Rise of Kylo Ren teased us with Luke and Lor San Tekka’s partnership taking them to explore old sites like the Jedi outpost on Elphrona from the High Republic era.

Seeing Luke and Lor together, bringing along Ben or others on adventures beyond Ossus, would go a long way to helping show the wider galaxy during this era. It allows for a look back into the past, like to the High Republic and other possible eras of galactic history. Luke visiting Kwen for example, and seeing what has become of the Great Work as first revealed in The Living Force would be fascinating, especially if several of his Padawans explore the interconnected islands during the visit.

2. The Return of the (Screaming) Queen

The Screaming Citadel crossover event introduced fans to the world of Ktath'atn, and its Queen. Dripping with gothic visuals from the shadowy forests to the menacing Citadel of Ktath'atn ruling over the world’s population, there was further horror in the form of a hive of abersyn symbiotes. Parasites which feed off the brains of their hosts, the Queen was leader of the hive and with her force-sensitive host, fed on the life force of the world’s inhabitants. Unfortunately, Dr. Aphra and our main group of Original Trilogy heroes ended up getting involved, and broke the Queen’s hold over her world. All of the symbiotes were assumed destroyed, except they were not. A final few panels of the comic event showed a scavenger of the now ruined Citadel being infested by one of the remaining parasites, and seemingly plotting a future away from the compromised world.

The Queen and her symbiotes have not returned in another canon story since, though the role Luke played in the destruction of the Queen’s plans surely earned the remaining hive’s ire. A story set during the era of the New Republic could help explore some of the weaknesses of that government, or show the remnants of the Empire involved somehow in support of the symbiotes. But really, it would just be a neat horror-themed story idea for this era to tackle in relation to Luke and his Jedi Academy. Seeing Luke and some of his allies or students falling into a game of politics and mystery arranged on behalf of the surviving or newly spawned symbiotes could be an excellent story!

1. The Last Mission

We mentioned Voe, Tai and Hennix earlier as three students we know a bit about, but we also know they were incredibly lucky. Of all the students, teachers, and caretakers at Luke’s school, these three were not at the new temple when Ben Solo’s rage destroyed it all. But the question is: where were they? Assumedly all three, given their age, were fully fledged Jedi Knights, meaning they could have been called to all sorts of situations.

They didn’t appear beaten or roughed up though, and they didn’t seem to be carrying or transporting artifacts or objects in their ship, Verity, back to Luke. The question of what this mission was should see an answer, since even if the aftermath of their return was a sad end for the group, learning who they helped or what they did before their deaths could provide interesting storytelling for Rey as she starts the New Jedi Order. A new story to learn about and finding meaning in, for her, and for us Star Wars fans.
