Top 5 DC Supervillains
You may or may not prefer them to Superheroes, but you can’t deny that the DC universe has had its fair share of memorable villains. From the smaller scale to the downright cosmic, several iconic supervillains have sprung from the publisher. There are countless examples, but today, we’re going to list five. These will be presented in no particular order, and if there are any you would have liked to see on the list that weren’t, that’s fine. These are all just the opinions of one writer, and we’d love to see what our readers have to say about it. With that out of the way, onto the list.
5. The Joker
Let’s start this list with one of the most famous supervillains, The Joker. No one knows the exact origins of the Clown Prince of Crime, he has been a thorn in Batman's side for many years (in and out of the universe). This clown has had a variety of wacky and extremely unwacky schemes, from murdering the innocents of Gotham, to making and selling fish with his face. Appearing in many iconic storylines, the Joker is as part of the Batman mythos as Bruce Wayne and can be expected to appear in any adaptation.

4. Lex Luthor
Alexander “Lex” Luthor has proven himself time and time again to be the main adversary of Superman. Though going through various personas, war profiteer, mad scientist, industrialist, and some combination of the three, Luthor has always been there to battle the Man of Steel. Luthor has appeared in almost every Superman adaptation and story; with decades of comic history under his belt, it’s a given that every fan of the DC Universe knows the name Lex Luthor.
3. Sinestro
Thaal Sinestro was once a member of the Green Lantern Corps, personally training Hal Jordan when he joined. However, he used his powers to set up a dictatorship and was banished to the Antimatter Universe. There, he would ally with the local population to create a yellow Power Ring, and use it to fight against the Green Lanterns, seeking revenge. Sinestro has become the most well-known Green Lantern villain, even founding his own corps of Yellow Power Ring wielders, the Sinestro Corps. If there’s a Green Lantern story, there is a good chance that Sinestro will show up at one point.
2. Ares
Owing to Wonder Woman’s Greek myth origins, is there any better villain for her than the God of War? Spreading war and conflict where he goes, he serves as a corrupting influence on the world. Ares first appeared in Wonder Woman’s self-titled comic book story, and since then, he has appeared countless times to battle the Amazon. There are plenty of other villains who have battled Wonder Woman over the years, and some of them were more than welcome on this list. Ares is simply the most well-known, the most used, and the one with the most basis in Greek myth.
1. Darkseid
This last pick probably comes as no surprise, but here is Darkseid. Ruler of Apokolips and the New Gods within, the tyrant's sole mission in life is to discover the Anti-Life Equation and usurp all free will throughout the Multiverse. Armed with powerful Omega Beams capable of disintegrating, teleporting, or resurrecting its targets, Darkseid is a powerful force to be reckoned with. Behind several well-known storylines, including the Final Crisis, Darkseid has proven himself to be a supervillain among supervillains.
Of course, that’s just our picks. What other supervillains could we have added?
