'Coco' Actress Ana Ofelia Murguía Passes Away At 90
The news of her passing was reported by the INBAL (National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature its acronym in Spanish) in México:
“With deep sadness we regret the sensitive death of the first actress Ana Ofelia Murguía, who was part of the stable cast of the @CNTeatromx of #INBAL and whose artistic career was vital for the performing arts of México. We send condolences and warm hugs to his family and friends,” were the words expressed by the INBAL in their X account.
The First Actress left a legacy of over 60 years of stage performances. Despite the lack of protagonist roles in her career, she is considered a pillar of México’s performative arts and its history.
Ana Ofelia had a stellar career which was recognized several times during the Ariel Awards, the Mexican equivalent of the Oscars. She was awarded an Ariel de Oro award, for her trajectory as a performer and contribution to the growth and preservation of Mexico’s film industry. She also received the Ariel Award for best supporting actress on three separate occasions: for Cadena Perpetua (Life Sentence) in 1979; Los Motivos de Luz (Luz’s Motives) in 1986; and for La Reina De La Noche (The Queen Of The night) in 1996.
We hope Ana Ofelia Murguía found peace and her loved ones remember her with profound love, as many fans will. RIP.
